Joy of… full-fill-ing!

Post image for Joy of… full-fill-ing!

Visualizing being in a privately chartered plane is actually working out for me… or maybe its actually just the pre-high season of christmas travel… either way, I enjoyed putting my feet up, guilt-lessly stretching my back, while watching the latest Meryl Streep embodiment of Julia Child in one of her most enchanting performances ever…

I am not attempting to write an out-dated review of this outstanding movie… but I couldn’t help thinking loudly through my latest obsession about what is it that makes someone a joy to watch (and I am talking on or off-screen)… what makes a book written a book sold, an on-stage presentation… unforgettable, what is it that shows in our eyes, words, hands, voice… when we are talking with passion… what is passion and how do we bring more of it into our lives…

You might have caught glimpses of this inner glitter… I personally saw it in amazing people I have been working beside and with, and who managed to un-veal it from behind their comfort spaces of fear or pride… In my teacher who keeps me awake in the wee hours of the night in a trance that answers my un-asked questions and brings up a thousand more, I see it constantly in my husband who derives mind blowing creativity in a challenging technology development field… doing what he loves to do, day in and day out (something I positively can’t handle for even a couple of hours)…

To me it seems that although a few people did write and term this phenomena (see ELEMENT written by Sir Ken Robinson, and the classic writing on FLOW by mihaly csikszentmihalyi), there is no verdict on whether it is a set of in-born talents that allow us to display brilliance (art, music, writing..) … or whether it comes in the form of potential-rich characteristics, or values (honesty, attention to detail…) that allows us to grow an array of possibilities and be whoever we choose to be…

But what they do seem to agree upon is, that many of us are still missing out on this glowing expression of beauty… in our constant attempt to abide to an un-achievable set of  social norms, settled into our fear zones…  and oblivious to the “living” possibilities in our dreams….

I guess what differenciates those you mention from others is passion for what they do. Mark Twain’s quote ‘Make your vocation your vacation’ applies here; and this is my own personal belief. You can’t but “shine” out there when you love what you do…. I can see that you already are SHINING Ruba…

Hope your enjoying your stay with the family in Jordan my dear friend :)
May the new year bring your passions into fruition….
